Recognise what chic means to you
Obviously I can tell you what kind of pieces you should buy if you want to look ‘chic’ according to my dictionary. The best part about fashion and developing a personal style is that you have your own kind of style. It’s why it’s so important to recognise what chic means to you firstly. Maybe you love dresses and they make you feel super chic, or maybe you feel fiercely chic in a suit. The fun thing about fashion is you can easily achieve an effortlessly chic look as long as it fits with your style. Style is something personal and I would never, ever tell you to wear a white shirt with smart trousers if it doesn’t fit your style and doesn’t make you feel like yourself. The key to achieve an effortlessly chic outfit, is to feel comfortable and confident in said outfit.Pick your go-to effortlessly chic outfits
Once you have recognised what chic means to you, I think it’s easier to put together outfits that make you feel that way. Once you know what chic means to you, it’s time for the fun part: making outfit combinations. I love doing this during Sunday evenings if I am having a bit of down time while planning for my week ahead. If I am really wanting to put in an effort with my looks, I will go to my wardrobe and pick out those pieces I know have this ‘wow I feel super chic in this’ effect on me. Pick a few items inside of your wardrobe that make you feel this way, style them together, take a photo of you in them and you’re good to go. This way it’s easier to find outfits you like when you’re not really feeling yourself that morning or if you’re in a rush. How I achieve my effortlessly chic look
These tips still might be a bit vague, which is why I waned to incorporate a few tips that I always apply to my wardrobe or whenever I buy new clothes to make sure they give me that ‘chic’ look without looking like I have thought about it too hard. If you’re a follower of my blog or instagram for a while now, you will know that I am a big lover of a minimal, monochrome and neutrals kind of look. It’s why whenever I pop into my wardrobe or a store my eye is immediately drawn towards these sorts of pieces of clothing. I find that neutrals colours such as khaki, beige and brown as well as black, white and grey colours look best on me. I feel most comfortable and confident in those kind of colours, which is why I always wear those sort of colours.Another thing I do to achieve that look is to mostly stick to Scandinavian brands. I find that brands such as H&M, Weekday, & Other Stories, Arket, Cheap Monday, Filippa K and Acne always achieve that effortlessly chic look. They’re not always budget friendly, but whenever I buy clothes I see them as investment pieces and will wear them until they are not salvable anymore. So, I would say that if you’re after the same kind of look like I am, then I would mostly stick to Scandinavian brands to achieve that effortlessly chic look.
