SPRING SUMMER 2019 WARDROBE ESSENTIALS

Once again I am sitting down to write about my spring/summer 2019 wardrobe essentials. I have managed to find all the items I was lusting over in the beginning of the season, which means I am pretty much sorted with my Spring/Summer wardrobe pieces. What’s even better is that I didn’t have to invest a lot of money into buying lots of new items, as I already owned most of the essentials that I pictured myself wearing this season.

Last season I already mentioned that neutrals will be such a big trend in my wardrobe during the A/W season, which you can read here. I feel like there isn’t much of a change into the fact that I still love to wear my neutrals, so it’s not that much of a different style I’m going for this spring/summer, it’s just that there will be a lot less layers and more cotton tees and neutral blouses and tops included into my wardrobe the upcoming weeks.

Culottes

Of course culottes are the first item I am going to have to mention in my SS2019 wardrobe essentials. I was looking through my 2018’s spring/summer wardrobe essentials post and was surprised that I didn’t mention a pair of culottes in that post. I did mention them in my 2017 SS wardrobe essentials posts though and I am excited to say that culottes have once again made it back onto my wardrobe essentials list. For me this year it’s all about falling back in love with spring/summer items I have loved to wear the in the previous years as I am trying to become more conscious about the impact that buying fast fashion has. Over the years I have invested in multiple culottes in all sorts of colours, which means I can really experiment with my culottes the upcoming seasons.

Paper bag waist trousers

Another pair of trousers that I have been obsessed with since the end of last year are paper bag waist trousers. I have a black, cream and brown pair of trousers, which will definitely sort me throughout the upcoming seasons. On casual occasions I love to style these trousers with something easy such as a basic tee. If I feel like I want to be a bit more fancy or if I am off to dinner or something I would usually pair these sort of trousers with a pretty blouse or a shirt.

Mom jeans

Mom jeans have become such a staple inside of my wardrobe ever since I bought my first pair last year. It’s so funny to think that before I used to wear skinny jeans, whereas now I tend to only wear mom jeans. Mom jeans and straight leg jeans are still such a must in your wardrobe. ASOS still do my favourite mom jeans as they do the petite sizes that are just the right length on me. I recently only finally managed to buy myself a black pair of mom jeans, but thinking of this now it seemed like a better option to buy myself a white pair of mom jeans instead as they would so cool paired with basically anything in the upcoming seasons. Can you guess what my next purchase on ASOS will include?

Midi dresses

Last year I mentioned that wrap dresses and shirt dressed would be two of my wardrobe essentials during that spring/summer season. And I am still pretty sure that they will still look good this season. And this year I am adding midi dresses to my obsession. I completely blame my cousin and lots of Instagrammers for this, as they all look so damn gorgeous in their midi dresses. My midi dresses collection needs at least one or two more additions before I can say I feel fulfilled with my collection, but I want to take my time to find the right midi dresses that I feel comfortable in and look right on me. I think midi dresses are going to be such an essential this year as you can easily style them and they are usually also appropriate to wear to the office if you have a job.

Midi skirts

Midi skirts are another one of those essentials that made it onto my list this year that is yet again influenced by the Instagram community and especially Maria, check her out, I absolutely love her style! I currently own a black and a leopard print midi skirt. I would like to add a white or cream skirt to this collection at some point, but again want to make a conscious choice in the style, fit and fabric of this to make sure it fits my personality and style.

Slip dresses

Tell me whatever you want, I don’t care if it’s on trend or not. That’s it about personal style; if you want to wear something just wear it! Even if it isn’t on trend! I am getting my black slip dress out again so I can go back to wearing it with t-shirts. I remember wearing my slip dress with a tee underneath it back in 2016 and I feel like I just have to get the courage back to wear slip dresses like this again. I like how it looked in these photos while I was on holiday, and I have some new ideas on how I could style it years later, which to me is a perfect example of how you can easily you can incorporate some timeless pieces into your day-to-day wardrobe.

Basic cotton tees

If you read my post about cotton tees last week then you will know that I am currently having another moment with yet another item of clothing that is super timeless to wear. A basic tee cannot be missed inside of anyone’s wardrobe this spring/summer season or any season in general. I love wearing cotton tees or linen tees as I find those two fabrics have the nicest fit on me and are what I feel most comfortable in.

Neutral tops and tees

Like I said in the introduction of this post, neutrals are still such a big trend that I feel like is very timeless. Colours such as cream, beige, khaki and brown are definitely some essential pieces if you are looking to invest into a timeless wardrobe, which is why I am so glad to be slowly adding more beige and brown tones into my wardrobe. These items will not only feed my neutral addiction in the short run, but I know I will still be wearing these sort of tops and tees in a couple of years.
