FIVE FAVOURITES OF JANUARY

This post contains affiliate links. Please read my full disclaimer here.

Finally, it’s February! January always feels like it goes on and on for ages. Thankfully it’s finally February now, which means that by the weekend it’ll be my birthday. It feels kind of weird though, as life has been upside down a bit these past couple of weeks, which is why I also have not been very active online lately. Let’s just say that 2020 was not off to a great start for our family as my mum ended up being in hospital for the majority of January. It basically meant that my dad and I were constantly travelling from the hospital home and vice versa. Comfort was such a big essential this past January, even more than it usually is in my day-to-day life.

& Other Stories camel jumper

This & Other Stories jumper has been one of the items I have worn so much these past couple of weeks. It’s a jumper that is slightly outside of my comfort zone, as it’s actually quite a short jumper. It’s shorter than what I would normally go for anyway. So when I first got it I kind of got scared that I would not get as much wear out of it as I liked, but it has actually gone the other way around. I have worn this jumper pretty much once every week, if not more, in both December and January. I love the colour of this jumper and love that this jumper is slightly shorter as it looks cuter that way when I wear it with mom jeans. My go to outfit for January with this jumper was styling it with my pair of black ASOS mom jeans and a pair of boots. This is one of those jumpers I have purchased that I know will last me ages and will continue to be loved as much as I love it now for years to come.

An American Marriage by Tayari Jones

Reading has become a passion of mine again this past year. In the first couple of days in January I started reading An American Marriage by Tayari Jones and basically could not put the book down because it was so beautifully written. An American Marriage is a book about newlyweds Roy and Celeste. Roy gets wrongfully convicted and has to go to jail for twelve years. The couple are ripped apart by these circumstances and neither of them could have imagined it. This book broke my heart while reading about it and really made me think about relationships and love in general. If you’re starting to become interested in reading books again, make sure this is on top of your reading list, because it won’t disappoint. It’s definitely not a happy read, it’s rather tragic, but I really feel that it’s also a very important read, as it’s ultimately a reminder of how much injustice against an innocent black men also impacts injustices of many others, such as wives, husbands, mothers, fathers and family and friends who love them.

Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Hydrating mask

Back in December I bought myself this mask, as I had started noticing this big breakout happening. It didn’t stop whatsoever and lasted all throughout December and most of January. The only thing I could really do about it, is by properly hydrating my face instead of drying the acne breakout out. I knew I would love an overnight mask for it, as they are known to be super hydrating. I also knew that my face would love The Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Hydrating Mask, as I had previously bought it and my skin always soaked this up. So when I bought this and started using it, I once again fell in love with it. When I would wake up in the mornings my face would feel super hydrated and felt moisturised. I have to admit I now don’t use it as much as I did before, as I recently started Accutane to hopefully cure my acne. At the moment I have really cut back my skincare routine and only use a moisturiser, a hyaluronic acid serum and some SPF for my face. But I have no doubt that I will pick this overnight mask up when the dryness really starts to hit.

Weleda Skin Food Lip Balm

Winter always screws with my lips, so I have become a lip balm addict ever since the start of winter. My lips are super chapped and dry in winter so I am always looking to buy lip balms that help with that. Now that I am on Accutane my lips are even MORE dry than normal, so I am basically putting lip balm on every hour. The one I bought recently and have really loved using is the Weleda Skin Food Lip Balm. I love how it feels on and it smells lovely. It smells exactly like the Weleda Skin Food cream. I think the original Weleda Skin Food contains a lot of essential oils, which can be quite irritating on the skin. It’s why I have not tried the cream out on my face yet for any dryness from the Accutane, but I have not had any problems with the lip balm. The texture of it feels super light, while it still also feels super moisturising and definitely helps keep my lips feeling less dry.

H&M Black joggers

So like I said, my dad and I spent most of January running back and forth between home and the hospital to visit my mum. Since I work from home I luckily got to be very on top of the hospital visits to my mum. But I have not slept well in a little while and whenever I wake up in the mornings nowadays I just want to wear the most comfortable pair of trousers I own. And those happen to be my joggers. I have absolutely LIVED in joggers this past month especially and it’s been so comfy. The pair I love most are these black ones from H&M as I can easily style them up with just a couple of items of clothing. I’ll probably actually share a post about that soon, as a lot of people had not even noticed I wore joggers most of January, which is totally what I was aiming for.
