A LIFE UPDATE: I GRATUATED!

It’s been a while since I last sat down and chatted about life. My last proper life update post was well over one year ago and a lot has happened since then. Life felt like it has been lived in the fast lane in 2019 and I can’t help but wonder what I actually spent most of my year doing... I thought it might be fun to share what I have been up to lately, as I feel like this is such a nice way to get to know a person a little better and just get to have a little bit of an insight into someone's life.

Uni life: I gratuated!

I feel like I have been quite open about my whole uni journey so far. In January of this year I handed my dissertation in for the first time, but it wasn’t good enough to graduate, so I had to rewrite it. You may remember from this summer that I spent most of my days rewriting it during June, July and August. In September I handed in my dissertation again and flew off to Spain to enjoy some much needed downtime with my parents. After that I went a bit awol on the whole uni chat so let’s catch up on that first.
Good news: I graduated! I kept it a bit under the loop as I feel like I don't want to boast about it too much as I still have friends who are still to graduate. I ended up getting the good word about my actual dissertation being sufficient in October and had my oral presentation about my dissertation last month. Obviously it was also a success otherwise I wouldn’t have graduated. So as of the 7th of November I am a Communications graduate and trying to find out what my next step will be. I'll probably write some more about this when the new year hits, as I have some stuff to discuss.

Room update

A lot happened in October, I also started redecorating my room, which is why I was quite quiet on the blog in October and November. It took a little while to renovate everything and I was basically living off a mattress in the room I usually do all my blog work in. It was just a big, chaotic mess basically. Anyway, you may have noticed that I am now finally back to sleeping in my room and in a normal bed and it feels amazing.
Most people would normally move out after graduating, but the house prices and rents are crazy in the Netherlands at the moment, especially in larger cities such as The Hague, Rotterdam or Amsterdam. It’s why my parents and I discussed the whole moving out topic and came to the conclusion that it’s best  to keep living with them for now to save money so I can hopefully move out when the house prices are a bit more reasonable. So I redecorated my room, I made it a bit more 'adult' so I know I will be able to continue living here for at least another year or two. The walls are still a bit bare at the moment, but I already have bought some posters. I just need to get some frames so I can make the room feel more alive. I’ll obviously share some photos as soon as I feel like it’s really done!

Other things in life

Now that I have graduated and I am nearly done with finishing redecorating my room, I somehow became sick. I think it’s all the stress I had building up inside me that is all finally coming out now that life is 'normal' again. Anyway, I am now recovering from a sinus infection I had going on. Nothing too serious, and something I seem to have every year whenever autumn and winter come around. I am feeling much better now though, as I feel more prepared than ever for against the cold and icy weather.

Another thing I feel like is important to update you on is my reading challenge. At the beginning of 2019 I set myself a goal to read 15 books a year. At the moment I am reading my 21st book of the year, which is such an improvement compared to last year when I only read 8 books. Not only did I surpass my reading goal of reading 15 books this year, I have now also fallen back in love with reading and everything that comes with it. I love spending time in bookshops again reading the backs of books and finding inspiration for new books I want to read. My reading list is growing and growing though. I keep track of my books and all the progress around it on my Goodreads account as well as on my Instagram stories in my ‘books’ highlight. So I became a book addict again and that’s where I nowadays tend to spend most of my money on.
So I am spending most of my money each month on books. It's different to how I would spent my money earlier this year or last year. I have really tried to stop myself from spending so much money on beauty, skincare and clothes and rather save it up instead. I did cave in the black Friday sale as I needed new jeans, so that’s the only thing I have bought recently. Other than that I am really trying to stay away from purchasing stuff just for the sake of it. I am using up all of the beauty and skincare products I already own and try to be more conscious of my spending habits.

December content is coming!!

Finally I have some festive content ideas planned for December, which is what I am working on now. Christmas is right around the corner and I am super excited for Christmas this time around as I feel like I can really appreciate it all this year. Last year was super stressful so I felt like I didn’t really have the whole build up to Christmas to look forward to, whereas this year I am able to experience that. I am super excited to get the festive December content going soon. Since I have so many ideas I might even post more during the month than my normal schedule, so keep an eye out on the blog for the rest of December.
