MY FAVOURITE THINGS ON A SUNNY SUNDAY

Sunday has got to be one of my absolute favourite days of the week. When I was younger I absolutely hated Sundays. I always left my homework until Sunday and would usually spend all day working on that. Now that I only really have my dissertation to worry about, I pretty much have my Sunday free and available to enjoy things I actually enjoy doing. It’s quite a funny thing actually, because the older you get, the more you really start to appreciate little things or activities on the days you have off.

Today will just be a little run through what my ideal Sunday would look like. Obviously, ideally this would be a sunny Sunday, as days filled with sunshine make me a very happy gal. Sunshine definitely affects my mood, but it also affects everyone around you too, doesn’t it? Especially when it’s sunny during weekend. Everyone just seems cheerful and happy to be able to spend time off enjoying whatever they are doing in the sun.

A little bit of reading in bed

Like I said in my weekday routines post, I like to have a little lie in on a Sunday. When I was younger I usually slept until 11 in the morning. Just thinking about that now, makes me feel slightly anxious, as there are just so many great things you can do during a Sunday! On Sundays I usually wake up at around 8:30 in the morning and read a book before starting my day. I find that reading a book before actually starting your day is a very calm, mindful and relaxed way to start your day. I can get really caught up in reading my book, which is why I usually set an alarm so I stop reading. This is usually until around 10 o’clock reading my book before getting into the shower and running downstairs to prepare breakfast with my parents.

Sunday breakfast with my parents

Another one of those things I absolutely love to do on a Sunday is have a full Sunday breakfast with my parents. It’s something we have done for as long as I can remember. If it’s warm enough to sit outside on a sunny Sunday we usually have our breakfast in the garden underneath the parasol. This is one of my favourite things about Sunday as it just feels as if you’re on holiday. We don’t eat breakfast together throughout the week, just during the weekend or if we are away on holiday. So having a breakfast in the sunshine on a quiet Sunday morning is something I can easily associate with being away on holiday.

A Sunday walk in nature

As soon as the sun is out on a Sunday I try and go out for a walk too. Walks are one of my favourite things to do, which totally makes me sound like a grandma. But I find walks very comforting and mentally healing. It’s even more motivating to go out for one if the sun is shining. Like I said before, everything looks better when the sun is shining, so I love to go for walks in the dunes near the beach for a bit of R&R before starting a new, busy week.

Sit in the garden to read or talk with my family

Whenever it’s super sunny I like to spend as much time outside as possible. It’s something my family and I always have done and I am pretty sure we’re not alone in that. So whenever it’s sunny we like to sit in the garden. Sometimes I like some quiet time and read some more of my book. Other Sundays my brother and his girlfriend pop by and we all have a little catch up with them in the garden. It might not be so special to anyone else, but like I said before, it’s really those small little things that give me joy and fun on a Sunday. Sometimes they even stay over to have dinner at out place or we have a barbeque, which is just such a lovely Sunday activity.

End my day with a film

If I have not read enough on a sunny Sunday, I like to end my day by reading some more of my book. I have really fallen back in love with reading lately, and it seems like I have become a bookworm. Wherever I go in the house, I have my book I am at that moment reading within reaching distance of me. If I don’t really feel like reading anymore, I love watching a film in bed to end my day with. It’s another one of those things I have taken on from when I was younger. Before I would watch films during the day, but the older I got, the more I started watching films before going to bed on a Sunday. It’s another one of those things that really helps quieting my head. If I don’t end my Sundays with a film after I have written a to-do list for the next week, my mind can easily go into overdrive thinking about all the tasks there are left for me to do.

This post is basically a major love note to sunny Sundays. As predicted we will luckily have a sunny Sunday this week too and it will be even nicer because it will be my dad’s birthday.

I would love to know what some of your favourite things are to do on a beautiful, sunny Sunday?
