SUMMER CITY BREAK ESSENTIALS

Summer is in full swing and I love it so much! I am enjoying my summer holiday off of uni and my goal this year was to travel a bit more. That’s why I am hoping to discover a few new cities in the Netherlands and Belgium. Discovering new cities and villages usually involves a lot of walking, so comfort is extra necessary during these warm months. In this post I will be talking you through a few of my go-to clothing items for when I am off to discover new cities during the summer season.

Lightweight trousers

Summer in the Netherlands isn’t normally that hot. And if I know I am going to be walking a lot I want to avoid having my bare legs out as much as possible. Firstly because I don’t find it too comfortable to have my legs out, but secondly – and most importantly, I want to avoid having any chaffing on the thighs. You thick thigh girls get me right? It is one of the most annoying things to be out and about, discovering new cities and then feel your thighs rubbing together. At first you’re fine but after a while it gets so annoying and painful. So whenever I am off discovering new cities or just wandering around town, I try to always wear some sort of lightweight trouser. The past couple of days I have loved wearing culottes and find myself constantly buying new pairs of culottes.

If it’s extra hot on a summers day here in the Netherlands, I would tend to also wear linen trousers. I already dedicated a whole post about why you should invest in linen this summer, so I am not going to be rambling on about this any longer. Linen is just such a beautiful material if it’s hot as it is just very light and breezy.

Lightweight Tee

The key to not overheating while on a city break, is wearing lightweight clothes. Which is why I usually end up wearing T-shirts that are loose or oversized and made out of either cotton or linen. I find a tee is just the perfect thing to wear whenever you’re walking around for a long time. A tee is just the most comfortable to be in whenever you’re going to be walking around all day.

Now I am also quite fussy when it comes to what colour of tee to wear. I usually go for either a white tee, a striped tee or a black tee like I am wearing in today’s outfit post.

Little crossbody bag

If I know I am going to be walking a lot, then I do not want to carry a big, heavy bag around with me. Mostly because I tend to bring lots of stuff that I don’t necessarily need. When I am off to discover other cities, I only really need my purse, sunglasses, a lip balm, my hand cream and a bottle of water. This is all I need to be able to fit into there. If I carry any more with me while wandering around a town, I know my shoulder will start aching after about an hour. Besides that I also like to bring my camera with me if I know I want to take proper photos for the blog. However, I would usually just end up carrying my camera with me in a separate tote bag, as that’s easier and ‘divides the weight’.

Comfortable trainers

The most important thing definitely is having the right pair of shoes when you know you’re going to be walking a lot. I know that as soon as my feet start aching or I start having blisters I am not a fun person to be around.

I have definitely learned my lesson throughout the years and now always try to go for comfort. Like I said, comfort is key, especially when it comes to shoes. All I need whenever I am travelling and/or walking around a city a lot is a pair of comfortable trainers. In this outfit post I am wearing these really comfortable white platform trainers from Pull & Bear. Otherwise I would just wear my trusty old Vans Old Skool trainers or an old pair of Nike trainers. I know these kinds of shoes never end up giving me blisters or make my feet ache, which is perfect.

What I am wearing:

ZARA culottes (similar)
