DIARY | DINNER AT MILLERS COCKTAIL KITCHEN*

Now that I am older, I enjoy to look for nice restaurants where you can have amazing meals, especially in my hometown Den Haag. Last week I met up with my friend Rebecca and we got invited to eat at Millers Cocktail Kitchen. I already had been invited to the opening of Millers Cocktail Kitchen back in March and was very excited to try all the food and cocktails.

Millers Cocktail Kitchen has an Asian-inspired restaurant and felt very relaxed. They combine cocktails and Asian food. As a foodie with Indonesian ancestors and someone with a blog that has sushi in the name, I feel like I am bound to enjoy Asian food. So it’s safe to say that I was thrilled to try some Asian food here.

Millers is a place in The Hague that most people of my age know very well. It is the place where most of my friends and I go to have a great night out or to have some casual evening drinks on their terrace. I never really realised that this place was actually a restaurant too, where you could have lunch or dinner.

We were welcomed at the restaurant with a cocktail and some bites. The night started off with a Daiquiri, some cassava chips and duck pancakes. The duck pancakes were made from rice pancakes served with Peking Duck, spring onion, cucumber and Hoi Sin sauce. These pancakes were definitely one of the highlights of my evening, so tasty!

Next on the menu was sushi, of course! I love sushi and definitely could eat it every day. We got two of my favourite sushi rolls, the dragon roll and a salmon roll. This was, just like the duck pancakes, very tasty. My favourite of the two definitely was the dragon roll, as it is just an all time favourite of mine.

The next two dishes during our tasting at Millers Cocktail Kitchen were the Massaman curry and the Szechuan beef. I usually do not really like curries, as I don’t really like the coriander that they usually put in it. In the Massaman curry the coriander was lovely actually. It definitely was not overpowering. I really enjoyed this curry, especially with the pumpkin and baby corn!

The Szechuan beef was nice too. On the menu it said that it was going to be spicy, but I did not feel like it was that spicy at all. The beef was very tender and the veggies were nice and still had a bite. Both the Massaman curry and the Szechuan beef had a small bowl of Jasmin rice, which was nice to eat with both the beef and curry.

We were really starting to feel quite full after this final dish, as we ate so many delicious things already, but we still got to have some desert. The two deserts that we got to eat were Apple Gyoza and Korean sweet pancakes. I was most surprised by the apple gyoza, as it is such an unusual combination to me. The apple gyoza however was sweet and very yummy and the coconut ice cream made it even better! The Korean sweet pancakes were nice too. With the Korean sweet pancakes we got some mango ice cream, which I still dream about now. Asian food makes me so happy.

We ended the night with some more cocktails. The waitress surprised us, and we really liked these cocktails. We had a 'Pop my Cherry' and a 'Screaming Orgasm', both cocktails made with amaretto.

The service at Millers Cocktail Kitchen was great – the food came quick, and the waiters were very lovely. I will definitely be heading back to Millers Cocktail Kitchen again, because there were still so many tasty things on the menu that I also would like to try. The only thing I struggled with during the evening was with the photography of the food during the night, as it was quite dark in the restaurant itself, but that is what made the restaurant feel cosy too.
