CAPSULE LOOK FOR A DUTCH SUMMER DAY

This post contains affiliate links

Dutch summers are a real thing this year. It just seems like a summer like we had last year just doesn’t want to begin. It’s been grey, gloomy and we have had a couple of very intense rain showers here. The weather… We love to complain about it as Dutchies, and I feel like a Dutch summer is pretty similar to British summers. Since we have had so many days like this recently, I have actually created a capsule every day summer look for Dutch summers like this. I have a lot of clothes inside of my wardrobe and have invested in lots of summer dresses for summer, but sadly enough it seems like the dressed need to have a little bit more of hanging time in my wardrobe, because it’s definitely too cold for me personally to get my legs out. But, enough moaning about the weather; I actually want to look cute and feel confident during those muggy summer days.

Mom jeans

It’s way too cold to get my legs out during these days, so it’s no surprise that I am wearing jeans instead. It always seems to be this sort of weather when I have to go out and run errands, so it’s why I usually put on jeans. It’s super easy to throw a pair of jeans on, because then I know I won’t be cold. They are glued to my body in this sort of weather, because they are actually also very comfortable to wear. It feels weird to say that jeans feel comfortable to wear, but I think I have finally worn in all of the pairs of jeans I own. Obviously it is not as comfortable as wearing a pair of leggings, but this pair of mom jeans is very practical for me to wear as I know I won’t be cold on the scooter while running errands. It also helps to create this really timeless look.

A neutral blazer

This year, 2019, definitely is the year of neutrals. I love my neutrals this year and I cannot stop wearing this blazer. It’s such an easy item of clothing to dress the jeans up a bit. Obviously I want to be comfortable whenever I wear jeans, but I don’t want to end up looking like a slob. So putting on a blazer always helps with that. It instantly pulls an outfit together and makes it look a bit chicer. At the moment I love wearing this Weekday blazer, but I think pretty much any sort of blazer could make a pair of mom jeans look a bit more put together.

In the past I have worn similar outfits to this styled with a black blazer. One of my favourite things to do is to style it with a printed blazer. Last year for example I wore this sort of outfit with a striped blazer and earlier on this year I actually styled it with a silk-like polkadot wrap blazer. It’s just a very easy way to make a super basic t-shirt and jeans outfit look more put together.

A basic tee

Ya girl is back with the basic tees. I always call myself a basic kinda gal, as I absolutely love and wear basic tops and tees to death. I love a basic tee to spruce up or down an outfit. In this case, it’s definitely to dress an outfit down a bit. Like I said, a blazer can easily dress up an outfit and when you’re running errands you don’t want to look too over the top. I really love the effortless kind of look that makes it seem like you didn’t try too hard, but still look pretty pulled together. I find that a basic cotton tee can really help with that sort of look. Basic tees are everything and throughout the years I have been on a quest to finding the perfect basic tee. I feel like I have finally found them, so obviously I wrote a blog post about it, which you can find in this blog post all about basic tees.

This is my current go-to outfit for whenever I am off to run errands. I actually find that this outfit also works for whenever I have meetings or am working from home. Back when I still had an internship going on last summer, I also seemed to wear a lot of these sort of outfits, as it’s just very easy to throw on and still look very professional.
You can make this sort of outfit even more work appropriate by adding some minimal jewellery, but I am still – and always – on the hunt for the perfect minimal but fairly affordable jewellery.
